At the age of 37, Novak Djokovic is about to start a new season on the ATP Tour, the 23rd of his career. The Serb would like to forget the 2024 season in which he did not play his best tennis and won only one title, the Olympic gold medal on the clay of Roland-Garros.

For the first time since 2017, he has finished a season without winning a Grand Slam tournament. In an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport, Djokovic claimed that 2024 had been one of the worst seasons of his career on the sporting front.

The Serb also explained that he wants to bounce back in 2025, convinced that he can still match the three best players in the world at the moment, Jannik SinnerAlexander Zverev and Carlos Alcaraz. He will be able to count on the help of his new coach Andy Murray.

It was perhaps the least successful season in the last 10 years.

“In 2024 I didn’t play much and, apart from the Olympic gold and the Wimbledon final, it was perhaps the least successful season in the last 10 years, with many ups and downs, problems to be solved also at the private level. However, I feel like I can still play at a high level,” the 24-time Grand Slam champion said.

“Meanwhile, Sinner and Alcaraz have established themselves as the two best players in the world, not to mention Zverev. All of them will be the main candidates to win Grand Slams and other titles. But physically and mentally, I’m ready to play my tennis again, I feel like I can challenge these guys and my experience can be useful.”

“So next year I will play more tournaments and the Slams in particular will be my priority. I’ll do my best to win, of course if my body allows me. But I’m fine, I still have time to rest and analyse what I can improve to do better than last season.”
