American Hanna Chang, the No 7 seed, edged out Italian Nuria Brancaccio 7-5, 0-6, 6-4 to advance to the final of the Fifth Third Charleston 125 2 on Saturday evening.
Chang, ranked No 194, will face the winner of the match between Mexican Renata Zarazua, the top seed, and American wildcard Lauren Davis next.
Ahead of her victory, the American beat wildcard Madison Sieg (6-4, 6-3), Liv Hovde (6-2, 6-3) and No 3 seed Varvara Lepchenko (6-4, 2-6, 7-5).
Brancaccio, ranked No 211, won against Austrian Sinja Kraus (6-4, 6-4), American Alycia Parks, the second seed (6-1, 6-3) and Spaniard Leyre Romero Gormaz, the No 5 seed (6-0, 7-6 (4)) earlier in the tournament.
