Bolivia Open: Todoni beats Arango to win title
The Romanian defeated Emiliana Arango 7-6 (5), 6-0 in the final on Sunday
Romanian Anca Todoni, the No 6 seed, defeated Colombian Emiliana Arango 7-6 (5), 6-0 to win the WTA $125K Bolivia Open title on Sunday.
The Romanian came from a break down twice in the first set and completed the win in one hour and 34 minutes. This was her second WTA $125K title of the season, the first coming in Bari, Italy earlier this year.
The win will take Todoni to No 117 in the latest world rankings after having begun the season ranked No 245 in the world.
Earlier in the week, Todoni, ranked No 138, beat Argentinian wildcard Sol Ailin Larraya Guidi (6-3, 6-2), American Carson Branstine (6-0, 3-0 ret.), Frenchwoman Chloe Paquet, the second seed (6-3, 6-0) and Latvian Darja Semenistaja, the No 5 seed (6-0, 6-1).
Arango, ranked No 234, beat Egyptian Mayar Sherif, the top seed (2-1 ret.), Chilean wildcard Antonia Vergara Rivera (6-0, 6-2), Spaniard Leyre Romero Gormaz (7-5, 6-1) and Hungarian Panna Udvardy, the No 7 seed (2-6, 6-2, 7-6 (5)) in the previous rounds.
