Latvian Darja Semenistaja, the No 5 seed, advanced to the quarter-finals of the Bolivia Open by edging out Frenchwoman Selena Janicijevic 6-2, 4-6, 7-5 on Thursday evening.
Semenistaja, ranked No 131, will play the winner of the match between Russian qualifier Daria Lodikova and Argentinian Julia Riera, the No 3 seed, next.
The 22-year-old Latvian won against Spaniard Aliona Bolsova (6-3, 6-4) in the previous round.
In the previous round, Janicijevic, ranked No 169, beat Kristina Mladenovic (6-1, 3-6, 6-3).
