Colombian Emiliana Arango reached the last 16 of the Bolivia Open when Egyptian Mayar Sherif, the top seed, retired on Tuesday evening.
Arango, ranked No 234, led 2-1 when Sherif, ranked No 96, pulled out on Tuesday evening.
The Colombian will face the winner of the match between qualifier Natalia Trigosso and Chilean wildcard Antonia Vergara Rivera next.
