Paris Masters: Tsitsipas keeps alive hopes of qualifying for ATP Finals with first-round win

Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, the No 10 seed, kept alive his hopes of qualifying for the season-ending ATP Finals as he moved into the second round of Paris Masters with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 win over lucky loser Roberto Carballes Baena at the Accor Arena on Monday evening.

Tsitsipas, ranked No 11, will play the winner of the match between Portuguese Nuno Borges and Chilean Alejandro Tabilo next.

Lying 12th in the ATP Race, Tsitsipas needs a big week in Paris to qualify for the eight-man field in Turin and fought hard to come from a set down and claim victory, the 100th Masters 1000 win of his career.

After the match, he spoke candidly about his chances of making the year-end finals:

“It’s not on my mind, honestly. It’s not something that I think about,” Tsitsipas explained.

“I’m a long way from qualifying. Deep inside I know that. It’s going to take a lot for me to qualify for that event, so if I manage to up my tennis this entire week, then let’s see.”
