Olga Danilovic won the Guangzhou Open on Sunday, defeating American Caroline Dolehide in straight sets in the title clash
Serbian Olga Danilovic won the Guangzhou Open trophy by defeating American qualifier Caroline Dolehide 6-3, 6-1 at the Nansha International Tennis Center on Sunday.
Danilovic needed only 63 minutes to thump Dolehide in the title clash.
The world No 86 broke the American’s serve five times with an impressive average of 82 percent on second-serve return points.
This is Danilovic’s second WTA Tour-level title win. The Serbian won her first at the Moscow River Cup held in August 2018, when she overcame Anastasia Potapova (7-5, 6-7 (1), 6-4) in the final.
“I’m so happy, the way I played the whole week, the whole tournament,” Danilovic said after the win. “I’m so proud of myself and my team. I showed what I can do and prove it to myself, I think, the most. So I’m so happy and very excited to be finishing the season this way.”
In the previous rounds of the Guangzhou tournament, Danilovic, ranked No 86, beat Russian Erika Andreeva (6-4, 6-4), Frenchwoman Diane Parry, the No 5 seed (6-1, 6-0), Thai qualifier Mananchaya Sawangkaew (6-4, 6-4) and top seed Katerina Siniakova (4-6, 6-4, 4-3 ret.).
Dolehide, ranked No 101, defeated Russian lucky loser Elena Pridankina (6-2, 6-1), second seed Marie Bouzkova (6-7 (3), 6-4, 7-6 (6)), Spaniard Jessica Bouzas Maneiro, the No 7 seed (6-4, 4-6, 6-0) and Italian Lucia Bronzetti (6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (9)) earlier in the tournament.
