Vienna Open: Draper reaches last four
Jack Draper won against Tomas Machac 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 on Friday and will play the winner of the match between German Alexander Zverev, the top seed, and Italian Lorenzo Musetti, the No 6 seed, in the next round
No 7 seed Jack Draper beat Tomas Machac 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 to reach the semi-finals of the Vienna Open at the Wiener Stadthalle on Friday.
It is his eighth tour-level semi-final.
“I thought the first set was really physical,” Draper said on Sky Sports Tennis after the match. “It’s always tough playing Tomas, he’s so solid off the ground.
“[In the second set] it was more of a mental battle. My energy just dropped a little bit. My decision-making became a little bit up and down. I knew I had to reset. At this level you can’t get away with spending too long in that situation. I’m really proud of the way I dug in and I didn’t really feel my best today but I competed hard and I did a great job to come through.”
Draper, ranked No 18, will play the winner of the match between German Alexander Zverev, the top seed, and Italian Lorenzo Musetti, the No 6 seed, next.
Ahead of his victory, Jack Draper won against Japanese wildcard Kei Nishikori (7-6 (5), 7-5) and Italian Luciano Darderi (7-5, 6-1).
Machac, ranked No 27, won against Hungarian Fabian Marozsan (7-6 (5), 6-1) and Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov, the No 3 seed (6-7 (5), 6-4, 6-3) earlier in the tournament.
