Ugo Humbert was simply too good for Dominic Thiem as he outclassed the former US Open champion 17-7, 17-11, 17-9 on Saturday to clinch a place in the semi-finals of UTS Frankfurt.

The left-handed Frenchman – “The Commander” was in total control, getting the job done in three quarters as Thiem suffered a third straight defeat in what is his penultimate event before he retires from the sport next week in Vienna.

Humbert will take on Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti in the last four on Sunday. He is also assured of a place in the UTS Grand Final in London in December.

Thiem was given great support again from the Frankfurt crowd but the former world No 3 was not able to produce his best, outplayed throughout by Humbert; who served well and took the ball early on return.
