“I’m not done with the racket yet” – Venus Williams
The 44-year-old American played in two events this year – Indian Wells and Miami
Seven-time Grand Slam singles champion and former world No 1 Venus Williams has said she is not done with competing just yet and will continue to pick and choose the events she wants to play in.
The 44-year-old American played two events in 2024 – Indian Wells and Miami, losing in the first round of both events. But in a new interview, the five-time Wimbledon champion has said she is not done with the racket just yet and that she continues to practice to ensure her game is at a high level.
“I’m not done with the racket yet,” Williams told the Irish News. “At this point, it’s about picking and choosing places I want to be. Last year I really wanted to play in Miami – home – because I hadn’t played there in like five years. It’s nice to be in a place where I can pick and choose, but my game is always at a high level. Even if I’m not on tour, I always keep my game quite high.”
“I always watch the tournaments as much as I can” – Venus Williams
Even while being away from the tour, Williams said she follows the sport and the tournaments on the tour. “I always watch the tournaments as much as I can – it’s hard to sit in front of the TV, and a lot of times by the time I have time at like 11pm it’s a replay, but it’s still fun to watch all the competition.”
There is no official word on when Williams, who recently released a new book ‘Strive: 8 Steps To Train For Success’, will play next on the tour.
