Japan Open: Tauson beats Dart to reach quarter-finals
The Dane will face the winner of the match between Frenchwoman Diane Parry, the No 7 seed, and Belgian Greet Minnen for a spot in the semi-final
Denmark’s Clara Tauson won against Harriet Dart 6-3, 6-2 to reach the last eight of the Japan Open in Osaka at the Utsubo Tennis Center on Wednesday.
This was the Dane’s sixth win in her last seven matches on tour, having also reached the final of the WTA 125K event in Hong Kong earlier this month. It was also her third win over Dart in as many matches and her first in straight sets over her British rival.
Tauson, ranked No 63, will face the winner of the match between Frenchwoman Diane Parry, the No 7 seed, and Belgian Greet Minnen next.
The 21-year-old Dane defeated American Katie Volynets (6-1, 6-4) ahead of her win today.
In the previous round of the tournament, Dart, ranked No 81, edged out German qualifier Laura Siegemund (3-6, 7-5, 7-5).
