Home favourite Zheng Qinwen cruises into last 16 in Wuhan

Fifth seed Qinwen Zheng beat Romanian wildcard Jaqueline Cristian 6-2, 6-4 to reach the last 16 of the Wuhan Open in front of an ecstatic home crowd at the Optics Valley International Tennis Center on Wednesday.

The Olympic champion will play Canadian Leylah Fernandez next.

In the previous round of the Wuhan tournament, Cristian, ranked No 75, defeated Colombian qualifier Camila Osorio (4-6, 6-2, 6-3).
