Wuhan Open: Gauff into last 16 with easy win
Coco Gauff defeated Viktoriya Tomova in straight sets on Wuhan debut. She’ll face Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk next
American Coco Gauff, the No 4 seed, won against Bulgarian Viktoriya Tomova 6-1, 6-2 to move into the last 16 of the Wuhan Open at the Optics Valley International Tennis Center on Wednesday.
On Wuhan debut, Gauff fired five aces and broke Tomova’s serve as many times to finish the match in 76 minutes, winning 83 percent of her first-serve points.
Gauff, ranked No 4, will face Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk, the No 13 seed, next.
In the previous round of the Wuhan tournament, Tomova, ranked No 48, edged out American Ashlyn Krueger (1-6, 7-6 (8), 7-5).
