Shanghai Masters: Rune moves into last 16

Dane Holger Rune, the No 12 seed, won against No 33 seed Jiri Lehecka 6-4, 7-5 to advance to the last 16 of the Shanghai Masters at the Qi Zhong Tennis Center on Tuesday.

Rune and Lehecka produced a close fight that extended to an hour, 46 minutes.

The Czech hit more aces (13) and winners (26) during the fight but the Dane’s 70 percent average on second-serve points propelled him to victory without getting broken.

Rune, ranked No 14, will play American Taylor Fritz, the No 7 seed, next.

The 21-year-old Dane beat Italian Matteo Berrettini (4-6, 6-4, 6-3) ahead of his victory.

In the previous round of the Shanghai tournament, Lehecka, ranked No 34, defeated Spaniard Jaume Munar (7-6 (6), 6-4).
