Shanghai Masters: Dimitrov passes Bergs test in second round

Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov, the No 9 seed, beat Belgian Zizou Bergs 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 to reach the third round of the Shanghai Masters at the Qi Zhong Tennis Center on Monday.

It took Dimitrov two hours, 20 minutes to get the better of Bergs in the second round. In the three-setter, the Belgian posted more aces and winners — seven and 26 to the Bulgarian’s four and 23, respectively.

Dimitrov, however, produced better numbers in terms of winning first-serve points, averaging 72 percent against Bergs’ 62. Also, he converted five break points, two more than his opponent.

Dimitrov, ranked No 10, will face Australian Alexei Popyrin, the No 20 seed, next.

In the previous round of the Shanghai tournament, Bergs, ranked No 73, won against Chinese Zhizhen Zhang (6-4, 6-3).
