Shanghai Masters: Machac battles past Davidovich Fokina to make third round

No 30 seed Tomas Machac advanced to the third round of the Shanghai Masters by edging out Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 1-6, 7-6 (3), 6-4 at the Qi Zhong Tennis Center.

Machac, ranked No 33, will play the winner of the match between Australian qualifier Aleksandar Vukic and Norwegian Casper Ruud, the No 8 seed, next.

In the previous round of the Shanghai tournament, Davidovich Fokina, ranked No 64, won against Canadian qualifier Gabriel Diallo (7-5, 7-6 (7)).
