Medvedev eases past Cobolli to set up semi-final with Alcaraz at China Open
Daniil Medvedev beat Flavio Cobolli 6-2, 6-4 to reach the last four, where he’ll play Carlos Alcaraz for a place in the final
Daniil Medvedev swept past Italian Flavio Cobolli 6-2, 6-4 to move into the semi-finals of the China Open at the Olympic Green Tennis Center in Beijing.
The third-seeded Russian fended off ten of eleven break point opportunities for his opponent, while converting four of eight on the Italian’s serve to ease through a match that could have been much more complicated than it was, had Cobolli been more clinical.
But Medvedev defended that sustained service pressure excellently, ultimately ensuring comfortable passage into the last four in Beijing.
Last year’s runner-up, Medvedev will be hoping to go one further this time around as he reaches the sixth semi-final of another highly consistent season.
