Rune stunned by qualifier in Hangzhou Open second round
Yasutaka Uchiyama defeated Holger Rune 7-5, 6-4 on Saturday
Japanese qualifier Yasutaka Uchiyama advanced to the quarter-finals of the Hangzhou Open by beating Dane Holger Rune, the top seed, 7-5, 6-4 at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Center on Saturday.
Uchiyama stunned the world No 14 by converting four of the 14 break points he created in the match that lasted an hour, 42 minutes.
Rune helped the qualifier’s cause by committing 40 unforced errors and five double faults. The result marks his third straight loss on the tour.
Uchiyama, ranked No 160, will face Croat wildcard Marin Cilic next.
In the previous round of the Hangzhou tournament, the Japanese won against Australian lucky loser James McCabe (6-4, 6-4).
