Korea Open: Haddad Maia books spot in semi-finals
Beatriz Haddad Maia won against Polina Kudermetova 6-2, 6-1 in the quarter-finals
Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia, the No 3 seed, moved into the last 4 of the Korea Open by beating Russian lucky loser Polina Kudermetova 6-2, 6-1 at the Olympic Park Tennis Center in Seoul on Saturday.
It was a straightforward outing for Haddad Maia as Kudermetova seemingly succumbed to pressure, committing 10 double faults.
The Brazilian broke the Russian’s serve five times to close the match in a little over 70 minutes.
Haddad Maia, ranked No 17, will next play Polina’s sister Veronika Kudermetova, who beat Bulgaria’s Viktoriya Tomova 7-5, 6-3 to reach the semis.
The Brazilian won against Australian Ajla Tomljanovic (6-3, 6-4) in the previous round of the Seoul tournament.
In the previous rounds of the Seoul tournament, Polina Kudermetova, ranked No 163, won against Australian qualifier Priscilla Hon (7-5, 6-4) and No 7 seed Ekaterina Alexandrova (6-2, 7-5).
