Slovenian Tamara Zidansek advanced to the last eight of the Thailand Open 2 by edging out American Katie Volynets, the No 6 seed, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 on Thursday night.
Zidansek, ranked No 261, will face Argentinian Nadia Podoroska next.
The Slovenian beat Russian qualifier Tatiana Prozorova (2-6, 6-3, 6-1) in the previous round.
In the previous round, Volynets, ranked No 60, won against Dane Clara Tauson (7-6 (2), 4-6, 6-3).
