Japanese Mai Hontama advanced to the last 16 of the Thailand Open 2 by stunning No 1 seed Dayana Yastremska on Tuesday. Hontama defeated Yastremska 7-6 (4), 7-5 in the opening round.

The two fought for more than two hours across two sets. Yastremska converted four break points but the Japanese edged out with five.
