Argentinian Maria Lourdes Carle, the top seed, moved into the last 16 of the Tiriac Foundation Trophy by edging out Romanian wildcard Maria Sara Popa 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 on Tuesday night.

Carle, ranked No 81, will play Portuguese Francisca Jorge next.
