Gasquet becomes third oldest player to win an ATP Challenger title

French veteran Richard Gasquet lifted a trophy once again on Monday – this time at the ATP Challenger in Cassis, France after beating Jurij Rodionov in a rain-delayed three-set final.

The 38-year-old former top 10 player came from a set down to beat Rodionov 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 to win the title.

The win makes Gasquet the third oldest player to win an ATP Challenger title behind Ivo Karlovic and Fernando Verdasco. It also moves him up eight spots to no 128 in the world rankings this week.

It was his first ATP Challenger title in seven years, his 10th overall and comes 22 years after he first picked up a title on the ATP Challenger Tour.

Gasquet, who had to play the qualifiers at the recent Wimbledon Championships and US Open, will be aiming to get back to the top 100 to avoid having to go through the qualifiers once again. At the ATP Tour level, the former world No 7 has compiled a 3-11 record in 2024.

While he has said that he is close to the end of his career, he has not set a definite date and tournament for the same just yet.
