US Open: Zheng breezes past Niemeier to move into fourth round
Zheng Qinwen beat Jule Niemeier 6-2, 6-1 and will play the winner of the match between Donna Vekic and Peyton Stearns in the next round
Chinese Zheng Qinwen, the No 7 seed, beat German Jule Niemeier 6-2, 6-1 to reach the last 16 of the US Open at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
Zheng, ranked No 7, will face the winner of the match between Croat Donna Vekic, the No 24 seed, and American Peyton Stearns next.
Earlier in the tournament, the 21-year-old Chinese beat American wildcard Amanda Anisimova (4-6, 6-4, 6-2) and Russian Erika Andreeva (6-7 (3), 6-1, 6-2).
Niemeier, ranked No 101, edged out Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska, the No 32 seed (6-4, 6-7 (3), 6-4) and defeated Japanese Moyuka Uchijima (6-4, 6-0) in the previous rounds.
