Pole Iga Swiatek, the top seed, advanced to the third round of the US Open by winning against Japanese qualifier Ena Shibahara 6-0, 6-1 on Thursday.
Swiatek, ranked No 1, will face the winner of the match between Italian Elisabetta Cocciaretto and Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, the No 25 seed, next.
The Pole beat Russian lucky loser Kamilla Rakhimova (6-4, 7-6 (6)) in the previous round.
In the first round, Shibahara, ranked No 217, edged out Australian Daria Saville (6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (6)).
