Gael “La Monf” Monfils has pulled off the upset of the day at UTS New York on Thursday, knocking two-time defending champion Andrey “Rublo” Rublev out of the tournament at the Forrest Hills Stadium in New York.
The Frenchman – who is also a veteran of the UTS format – won the match 19-12, 15-10, 18-14, and will now move into the semi-finals on Friday. He will face Australia’s Nick “King Kyrgios” Kyrgios, who thrashed Casper “The Iceman” Ruud three quarters to love earlier in the day in his first competitive match of the year.
