Top seed Haddad Maia puts on masterclass, into last eight at Cleveland Open

Beatriz Haddad Maia eased past Cristina Bucsa 6-2, 6-1 in straight sets on Wednesday and will face the winner of the match between Frenchwoman Clara Burel and American Sofia Kenin, the No 8 seed, in the next round.

Beatriz Haddad Maia, the top seed, moved into the last eight of the Cleveland Open by beating Spaniard Cristina Bucsa 6-2, 6-1 at Jacobs Pavilion on Wednesday evening.

Haddad Maia, ranked No 23, will play the winner of the match between Frenchwoman Clara Burel and American Sofia Kenin, the No 8 seed, next.

In the previous round of the Cleveland tournament, the Brazilian knocked off Swiss qualifier Viktorija Golubic (6-3, 7-5).

Bucsa, ranked No 72, ousted Italian Martina Trevisan (6-2, 6-4) during the first round of the Cleveland tournament.
