Italian Jannik Sinner, the top seed, defeated American Frances Tiafoe 7-6 (4), 6-2 to win the Cincinnati Masters trophy at the Lindner Family Tennis Center on Monday night.
Earlier in the tournament, Sinner, ranked No 1, beat American qualifier Alex Michelsen (6-4, 7-5), Australian Jordan Thompson (W/O), Russian Andrey Rublev, the No 6 seed (4-6, 7-5, 6-4) and German Alexander Zverev, the No 3 seed (7-6 (9), 5-7, 7-6 (4)).
Tiafoe, ranked No 20, defeated Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina (6-3, 7-6 (6)), Italian Lorenzo Musetti, the No 14 seed (6-3, 6-2), Jiri Lehecka (6-4, 6-7 (10), 7-6 (5)), Pole Hubert Hurkacz, the No 5 seed (6-3 ret.) and Dane Holger Rune, the No 15 seed (4-6, 6-1, 7-6 (4)) in the previous rounds of the Cincy Open.
