Sabalenka secures spot in Western & Southern Open quarter-finals
Aryna Sabalenka picked up a straight-set win over Elina Svitolina on Friday in Cincinnati. Sabalenka is set for a quarter-final showdown against Liudmila Samsonova.
Aryna Sabalenka, the No 3 seed, reached the quarter-finals of the Western & Southern Open by getting the best of Ukrainian Elina Svitolina 7-5, 6-2 at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Cincinnati on Friday afternoon.
Sabalenka, ranked No 3, will next play Russian Liudmila Samsonova, the No 10 seed, next.
The Belarusian beat Italian Elisabetta Cocciaretto (6-3, 6-4) ahead of Friday’s victory.
In the previous rounds at this WTA Premier 1000 event in Cincinnati, Svitolina — ranked No 30 — defeated Chinese qualifier Yafan Wang (5-7, 6-3, 6-2) and Spanish lucky loser Jessica Bouzas Maneiro (6-4, 6-1).
