Shelton powers into quarter-finals at Cincinnati Masters
Ben Shelton cruised past Fabian Marozsan 6-4, 6-3 in straight sets on Friday in Cincinnati. Shelton will face Alexander Zverev in the quarter-finals.
Ben Shelton, the No 12 seed, beat Hungarian Fabian Marozsan 6-4, 6-3 to secure a spot in the last eight of the Western & Southern Open at the Lindner Family Tennis Center on Friday afternoon.
Shelton, ranked No 14, will next play German Alexander Zverev, the No 3 seed.
The 21-year-old American previously dismissed wild card Reilly Opelka (7-6 (3), 7-6 (3)) and Argentinian Tomas Martin Etcheverry (6-7 (6), 7-6 (7), 6-3) — the latter from a match point down.
Earlier in the tournament, Marozsan — ranked No 50 — ousted French qualifier Corentin Moutet (6-4, 7-6 (2)) and Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov, the No 8 seed (4-6, 6-4, 6-3).
