Shelton continues Cincinnati run with tight win over Etcheverry

American Ben Shelton, the No 12 seed, reached the last 16 of the Cincinnati Masters by winning against Argentinian Tomas Martin Etcheverry 6-7 (6), 7-6 (7), 6-3 at the Lindner Family Tennis Center on Thursday evening.

Shelton, ranked No 14, will play Hungarian Fabian Marozsan next.

In the previous round of the Cincy Open, the 21-year-old American defeated wildcard Reilly Opelka (7-6 (3), 7-6 (3)).

Etcheverry, ranked No 37, beat Italian Matteo Arnaldi (6-3, 6-7 (3), 6-2) in the previous round of the Cincy Open.
