Montreal Masters: Rublev breezes past Nakashima to move into quarter-finals

Andrey Rublev beat Brandon Nakashima 6-2, 6-2 and will play the winner of the match between Jannik Sinner and Alejandro Tabilo in the next round

Russian Andrey Rublev, the No 5 seed, reached the last eight of the Montreal Masters by beating American qualifier Brandon Nakashima 6-2, 6-2 at Stade IGA.

Rublev, ranked No 8, will play the winner of the match between Italian Jannik Sinner, the top seed, and Chilean Alejandro Tabilo, the No 15 seed, next.

In the previous round of the Rogers Cup, the Russian won against Argentinian Tomas Martin Etcheverry (7-6 (3), 6-2).

Nakashima, ranked No 52, defeated Canadian wildcard Denis Shapovalov (6-4, 7-5) and No 10 seed Tommy Paul (6-2, 6-7 (5), 6-1) in the previous rounds of the Rogers Cup.
