WTA Toronto: Anisimova books spot in quarter-finals as Kalinskaya retires injured
Amanda Anisimova benefited from the retirement of Anna Kalinskaya (6-2) and will face either Katie Boulter or Aryna Sabalenka in the next round
American Amanda Anisimova advanced to the quarter-finals of the National Bank Open when Russian Anna Kalinskaya, the No 10 seed, retired with injury at the Aviva Centre.
Anisimova, ranked No 132, led 6-2 when Kalinskaya, ranked No 17, pulled out at the Aviva Centre on Friday evening.
The 22-year-old American will play the winner of the match between Katie Boulter and Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, the second seed, next.
Amanda Anisimova won against Caroline Dolehide (6-1, 6-4) and Russian Daria Kasatkina, the No 5 seed (6-4, 6-3) earlier in the tournament.
In the previous rounds of the Rogers Cup, the Russian beat American qualifier Louisa Chirico (6-2, 6-3) and Ukrainian Lesia Tsurenko (6-2, 6-2).
