Elena-Gabriela Ruse overcame Tamara Korpatsch 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 on Thursday afternoon and will play Dutchwoman Arantxa Rus, the No 3 seed, on Friday

Romanian Elena-Gabriela Ruse advanced to the semi-finals of the Hamburg European Open by winning against German Tamara Korpatsch, the second seed, 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 on Thursday afternoon.
Ruse, ranked No 142, will play Dutchwoman Arantxa Rus, the No 3 seed, next.
The Romanian beat Brazilian Laura Pigossi, the No 5 seed (6-3, 6-4) and Serb qualifier Dejana Radanovic (7-5, 7-5) in the previous rounds.
Earlier in the tournament, Korpatsch, ranked No 109, edged out Greek Despina Papamichail (6-0, 2-6, 6-4) and benefited from the abandonment of Romanian Irina-Camelia Begu (6-4, 3-1).
