WTA Toronto: Svitolina into second round, faces countrywoman Kostyuk next

Ukrainian Elina Svitolina won against American Shelby Rogers 6-0, 6-2 to move into the second round of the WTA National Bank Open in Toronto at the Aviva Centre on Tuesday.

Svitolina, ranked No 34, will face Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk, the No 11 seed, next. The world No 34 has a 1-0 lead over her younger countrywoman, winning their third-round clash at the 2018 Australian Open.

This is the first time since 2019 that Svitolina is playing in Toronto (she missed the 2021 edition due to her maternity break).
