Korda wins all-American clash to make Citi Open final
Sebastian Korda won against Frances Tiafoe 6-4, 6-4 on Saturday night and will play Italian Flavio Cobolli, the No 10 seed, in the final
No 4 seed Sebastian Korda moved into the final of the Citi Open by winning against No 5 seed Frances Tiafoe 6-4, 6-4 at the William H.G. FitzGerald Tennis Center in Washington on Saturday night.
Korda was brilliant on serve, losing just seven points across the match and firing down eight aces against home hero Tiafoe. He now makes his first final since 2021, and seeks his first ATP 500-level title.
Korda, ranked No 22, will face Italian Flavio Cobolli, the No 10 seed, next.
Ahead of his victory, Sebastian Korda beat Chilean Cristian Garin (6-3, 6-2), Australian Thanasi Kokkinakis (6-7 (1), 7-5, 3-2 ret.) and Australian Jordan Thompson, the No 7 seed (6-4, 6-2).
Tiafoe, ranked No 29, defeated Colombian Daniel Elahi Galan (6-7 (8), 6-3, 6-3), Aleksandar Kovacevic (7-6 (3), 4-6, 6-3) and Russian Andrey Rublev, the top seed (6-4, 7-6 (3)) in the previous rounds of the Washington D.C. tournament.
