Citi Open: Top seed Rublev sets quarter-final clash against Tiafoe

Andrey Rublev won against Arthur Rinderknech 7-6 (4), 6-4 on Thursday night and will play No 5 seed Frances Tiafoe in the next round

Russian Andrey Rublev, the top seed, reached the quarter-finals of the Citi Open by defeating Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech, the No 16 seed, 7-6 (4), 6-4 at the William H.G. FitzGerald Tennis Center in Washington on Thursday night.

Rublev, ranked No 8, will face No 5 seed Frances Tiafoe next.

Ahead of his victory, the Russian edged out Frenchman Luca Van Assche (4-6, 6-3, 6-4).

Rinderknech, ranked No 68, benefited from the retirement of Chinese Juncheng Shang (2-3) in the previous round of the Washington D.C. tournament.
