Spanish wildcard Paula Badosa advanced to the last eight of the Washington Open when Russian Liudmila Samsonova, the No 3 seed, retired at the William H.G. FitzGerald Tennis Center.

“I’m expecting a tough match there” – Badosa on Raducanu
The Spaniard will play wildcard Emma Raducanu next.
“I think these conditions, these balls — and she (Raducanu) proved it also a few years ago with US Open — it suits her very well,” Badosa said as quoted by the WTA Tour. “She’s a very fast player. She has a very fast eye also. She changes directions really well. And she’s playing great. Since Wimbledon she was showing a very high level. I think mentally she’s in a good place also. I’m expecting a tough match there.”
In the previous round of the Washington tournament, Paula Badosa won against American Sofia Kenin (6-1, 7-6 (6)).
