Washington Open: Sabalenka moves into last eight

Aryna Sabalenka edged out Kamilla Rakhimova 7-5, 4-6, 6-4 on Thursday night and will play the winner of the match between Chinese Yafan Wang and Belarusian Victoria Azarenka, the No 6 seed, in the next round

Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, the top seed, moved into the last 8 of the Washington Open by edging out Russian qualifier Kamilla Rakhimova 7-5, 4-6, 6-4 at the William H.G. FitzGerald Tennis Center on Thursday night.

Sabalenka, ranked No 3, will play the winner of the match between Chinese Yafan Wang and Belarusian Victoria Azarenka, the No 6 seed, next.

In the previous round of the Washington tournament, Rakhimova, ranked No 105, beat American Katie Volynets (6-4, 6-3).
