Citi Open: Davidovich Fokina survives Krueger battle to reach last 16
The eighth seed will face Belgian David Goffin or Italian Flavio Cobolli, the No 10 seed, in the next round
Spain’s Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, the No 8 seed, advanced to the last 16 of the Citi Open by edging out American qualifier Mitchell Krueger on Wednesday.
Davidovich Fokina came from a set and a break down in the second set to eventually win 3-6, 7-6 (3), 6-4 at the William H.G. FitzGerald Tennis Center in Washington.
The Spaniard, ranked No 44, will face the winner of the match between Belgian David Goffin and Italian Flavio Cobolli, the No 10 seed, next.
In the previous round of the event, Krueger, ranked No 192 in the world, defeated Italian Luca Nardi (7-6 (3), 4-1 retd.).
