Chilean Cristian Garin defeated Russian Aslan Karatsev 6-4, 6-2 to advance to the second round of the Citi Open at the William H.G. FitzGerald Tennis Center in Washington on Monday evening.

Garin, ranked No 115, will play No 4 seed Sebastian Korda next.
