Washington Open: Pavlyuchenkova into second round

Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, the No 7 seed, edged out American Ashlyn Krueger 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 to reach the second round of the Washington Open at the William H.G. FitzGerald Tennis Center on Monday evening.

Pavlyuchenkova, ranked No 33, will play the winner of the match between Sloane Stephens and qualifier Amanda Anisimova next.
