Romanian wildcard Elena-Gabriela Ruse beat Russian Anastasia Tikhonova 6-3, 5-7, 6-1 to reach the second round of the Iasi Open at the Ciric Sports Base.
Ruse, ranked No 149, will face the winner of the match between Italian lucky loser Nuria Brancaccio and Romanian Jaqueline Cristian, the No 3 seed, next.
