Rafael Nadal is on the entry list of the 2024 US Open, with the Spaniard using his protected ranking to gain entry to the year’s final Grand Slam.
Many expected the Olympics at Roland-Garros to be the 22-time Grand Slam champion’s final goodbye.
However, the 38-year-old’s name is on the US Open entry list, which was released today.
Nadal has not played in New York since 2022, when he lost to Frances Tiafoe 6-4, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 in the round of 16.
This week, he’s playing at the Nordea Open, having last played at Roland-Garros where he lost to Alexander Zverev in the first round. His campaign in Bastad got off to a winning start, with Nadal defeating Leo Borgs, son of Bjorn Borg, 6-3, 6-4 in his opening match.
Other players using their protected rankings to compete at the 2024 US Open include Denis Shapovalov, Pablo Carreno Busta and Reilly Opelka.
