Frenchman Benoit Paire edged out American Zachary Svajda 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (4) to move into the second round of the Hall of Fame Open at the International Tennis Hall of Fame and Museum in Newport.
Paire, ranked No 227, will play second seed Marcos Giron next.
