American Mackenzie McDonald reached the second round of the Hall of Fame Open by beating Australian Rinky Hijikata, the No 8 seed, 4-6, 7-6 (4), 6-2 at the International Tennis Hall of Fame & Museum in Newport.
McDonald, ranked No 99, will play the winner of the match between qualifier Billy Harris and Canadian Gabriel Diallo next.
