Chinese lucky loser Xinyu Gao won against Brazilian Laura Pigossi, the No 5 seed, 6-2, 5-7, 6-2 to move into the last eight of the Grand Est Open 88.
Gao, ranked No 187, will play wildcard Margaux Rouvroy next.
The Chinese beat Serb Lola Radivojevic (6-0, 6-4) ahead of her victory.
In the previous round, Pigossi, ranked No 110, edged out Belarusian lucky loser Iryna Shymanovich (6-3, 0-6, 6-4).
