Mallorca Open: Monfils eases into quarter-finals

Frenchman Gael Monfils, the No 6 seed, won against Spaniard Roberto Carballes Baena 6-3, 6-4 to move into the last eight of the Mallorca Open at Mallorca Country Club on Tuesday evening.

Monfils, ranked No 40, will face Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut next.

The 37-year-old Frenchman beat Austrian wildcard Dominic Thiem (6-3, 7-6 (3)) in the previous round of the Mallorca tournament.

In the previous round of the Mallorca tournament, Carballes Baena, ranked No 65, edged out wildcard Pablo Carreno Busta (7-6 (4), 4-6, 7-6 (3)).
