Zverev holds off Fils to make Halle semis, plays Hurkacz next
Alexander Zverev edged out Arthur Fils 6-7 (5), 6-3, 6-4 on Friday afternoon and will play Pole Hubert Hurkacz, the No 5 seed, in the next round
German Alexander Zverev, the second seed, advanced to the semi-finals of the Halle Open by edging out Frenchman Arthur Fils 6-7 (5), 6-3, 6-4 at the Owl Arena/Gerry-Weber-Stadion on Friday afternoon.
Zverev, ranked No 4, will face Pole Hubert Hurkacz, the No 5 seed, next.
The German edged out qualifier Oscar Otte (6-7 (5), 6-3, 6-4) and defeated Italian Lorenzo Sonego (6-4, 7-6 (5)) earlier in the tournament.
In the previous rounds of the Halle tournament, Fils, ranked No 37, won against Tomas Machac (6-4, 6-4) and German wildcard Dominik Koepfer (6-3, 6-4).
