Russian Kamilla Rakhimova reached the quarter-finals of the Veneto Open promoted by Regione del Veneto when Belgian Alison Van Uytvanck retired on Wednesday evening.
Rakhimova, ranked No 108, led 7-6 (1), 1-0 when Van Uytvanck, ranked No 265, pulled out on Wednesday evening.
The 22-year-old Russian will play American Bernarda Pera, the No 8 seed, next.
Kamilla Rakhimova edged out Argentinian Maria Lourdes Carle, the second seed (3-6, 6-4, 6-4) ahead of her victory.
In the previous round, the Belgian won against Swiss Celine Naef (7-5, 6-1).
